Sarah Redshaw completed her PhD on the ethics of Spinoza, "Spinoza and an Ethics of Expression" and undertook applied research in the area of cultures of driving.
She has conducted research projects for a number of years on the social and cultural issues related to young drivers and their over-representation in road casualties including as Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Cultural Research, University of Western Sydney on the Linkage project Transforming Drivers: driving as social, cultural and gendered practice, a partnership with motoring organisation NRMA Motoring and Services.
She has collaborated on a number of projects with local councils, government departments and other organisations involving young drivers, and explored various themes related to driving in focus group studies.
The research has employed social and cultural theory to better understand important areas of social/everyday life in ways that might have direct implications for policy.
The significant impact of the research in the community and within the road safety field has been demonstrated in invitations to submit to Federal and State government inquiries and to consult with government departments.
She has published papers on the research in :
